Jono Davis conceived The Overture Series in 2019 with the hopes of bringing a new medium of musical theatre to Atlanta. With the support and funding of Cobb PARKS, the series began with a four show line-up, each show with one performance only. The goal was to produce rarely done shows in Atlanta. With the

one-show model, we could give this town a taste of these never-produced musicals.

 

For the artists involved, it was a very quick process. Rehearsals for these single performances ranged from five to fifteen days. This also provided opportunities to artists who could rarely commit to the typical lengthy runs of shows. When the pandemic forced us to put a bookmark in our inaugural season, we pivoted to streaming performances. Since the start of the pandemic, The Overture Series produced six streaming performances, gaining a nationwide following.

In 2021, we returned to the stage for in-person performances and sold out houses. The popularity of The Overture Series expanded and were been able to expand to multiple performances for each concert. Every season, since then, has had a mix of streaming and in-person shows to appeal to our broadened audiences. What started out with concerts with books on music stands and minimal production elements has blossomed into a special and full theatre experience for artists and patrons.

The Overture Series has been the recipient of dozens of BroadwayWorld Awards, several Suzi Bass Awards, and a global Telly Award.
